May 8, 2025 Meeting Highlights
Grey County Council met May 8, 2025, in the Grey County Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. A recording of the meeting can be found on the Grey County YouTube Channel.
County Council
- Council accepted the minutes of the April 24 Grey County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. Council Committee
- Council accepted the minutes of the joint all-council meeting of April 17. Minutes
- Council received the minutes of the March 28 Board of Health meeting. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra provided a verbal update and noted there are some cases of measles in the area but the number of cases is low and manageable. Dr. Arra provided some recommendations about immunizations and natural immunity, noting all local cases to date have been people who were not immunized. Dr. Arra also spoke to how cases are managed to reduce exposure. Minutes
- Warden Matrosovs introduced and congratulated Randy Scherzer as Grey County’s new Chief Administrative Officer.
Committee of the Whole
- Jessica Linthorne, CEO of the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), provided Council with an update from the non-profit organization. The NII is a member-based organization driving innovative nuclear voices, skill development and industry advancement in the region. Ms. Linthorne shared highlights from the NII Annual Report. - Directors Myers and Taylor shared updates from the May 1 Planning and Economic Development Advisory Committee meeting. Highlights included the Economic Development and Tourism strategic progress report, a key sector scan and tariffs, and a growth management study update. Minutes
- Grey County is purchasing land in Hanover at 17th Street Crescent for the future construction of a new EarlyON Child and Family Centre. EarlyON Centres offer free, high-quality programs for families and children from birth to 6 years old. Grey County operates the EarlyON Centre in Hanover. Other locations across the County are operated by contracted providers. The existing EarlyON location is in an aging building with limited parking and accessibility challenges. A new facility can be built to meet accessibility standards and improve access. With land secured, a request for proposal will be issued to hire an architect. Report
- Council approved an official plan amendment to redesignate lands on a property in West Grey. Report
