County Council

Grey County Council is made up of the mayors and deputy mayors of Grey County’s nine member municipalities. These 18 councillors represent the best interests of Grey County as a whole and each year a Warden is elected as the head of council.

Grey County Council develops and evaluates policies to ensure Grey County services meet resident needs. Council is also responsible for the financial integrity of the municipality and many other duties. Full details can be found in the County’s Procedural By-Law.

County Council typically meets once a month to discuss and approve the minutes and motions passed by the County’s four standing committees. On occasion, some items may bypass standing committees and be discussed directly at council, such as governance or the corporate strategic plan.

Corporate Services

There are currently no meeting dates set, please check back at a later time.

The Corporate Services Committee typically meets one per month with more meetings as needed. This committee provides recommendations to Council about:

  • Budget, assessment and taxation
  • Asset management
  • General legislation and by-laws
  • Risk management and emergency management
  • Human Resources
  • Records Management
  • Information Technologies
  • Provincial Offences Administration (courts)

Planning & Community Development

The Planning & Community Development Committee typically meets once per month with more meetings as needed. This committee provides recommendations to Council about:

  • planning matters (Planning Act, zoning, site-plans, approving local municipal Official Plans, community planning, 911 addressing, more)
  • forest and trail management
  • economic development and tourism
  • heritage
  • agriculture

Social Services

There are currently no meeting dates set, please check back at a later time.

The Social Services Committee typically meets once per month with more meetings as needed. This committee provides recommendations to council about:

  • mandated social services (Ontario Works, Children’s Services)
  • community and social support programs
  • healthy community planning
  • long-term care (Lee Manor, Rockwood Terrace and Grey Gables)
  • affordable housing and non-profit housing
  • housing support programs

Transportation & Public Safety

The Transportation and Public Safety Committee typically meets once per month with more meetings as needed. This committee provides recommendations to council about:

  • maintenance and construction of roads, bridges and culverts
  • winter maintenance of roads
  • paramedic services and land ambulance
  • public access defibrillation

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee typically meets four times per year with more meetings as needed. This subcommittee reports to Corporate Services Committee. It advises County Council about ways to ensure County services and spaces are accessible.

This committee meets requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Membership includes 50% plus one person with disabilities. One member of County Council sits on the committee and the rest are public members.

Grey County Building Task Force - Administration Building

The Building Task Force is an ad hoc committee formed to oversee the construction and renovation of the Grey County Administration Building. This committee consists of the Warden and four members of County Council with additional support from staff.

Development Charges Steering Committee

The Development Charges Steering Committee is an ad hoc committee to review Grey County’s current development charges. This review occurs once every five years.

Economic Development Advisory Committee

The Economic Development Advisory Committee meets regularly. This subcommittee reports to the Planning and Community Development Committee and advises council about expanding the prosperity base in Grey County. Specifically, the committee helps implement the “Made in Grey” Economic Development Strategy.

Voting membership is comprised of the Warden, the Chair of Planning and Community Development Committee and one appointed member of the Planning and Community Development Committee. Up to seven public members from the broader Grey County economic interests/sectors also participate.

Tourism Advisory Committee

The Tourism Advisory Committee meets regularly. This subcommittee reports to the Planning and Community Development Committee about ways to improve local tourism.

Voting membership includes five local members of the tourism industry or pubic representing a cross-section of interests in tourism. Grey County Council also appoints two members from the Planning and Community Development Committee.
