SCATR Drug Checking Program
Grey County is one of 15 sites across Canada to receive funding for a state-of-the-art drug testing machine. This machine marks a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
The introduction of the SCATR drug checking technology greatly enhances Grey County's ability to serve vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by opioid poisoning from the illicit drug supply. This advanced technology provides immediate, semi-quantitative analysis of substances, offering critical information about the contents of drugs being consumed. With accurate, real-time data, we can better educate users about the potential risks associated with their drug use and support them in making safer choices. Our Supportive Outreach Services (SOS) team, which works directly with individuals affected by homelessness and addiction, will benefit immensely from this technology, enabling more effective engagement with clients and fostering greater trust and connection. The SCATR device's ability to identify dangerous components in drugs quickly is crucial in preventing life-threatening overdoses and saving lives. By integrating this technology into our harm reduction strategy, we are taking a significant step towards improving public health and safety in Grey County.
