Committee of the Whole
- Council received a presentation from Timmins Martelle Heritage Consultants (TMHC) regarding archeology in Grey County and the goals of the Grey County Archaeological Management Plan. The consultants shared information about how data is collected, shared draft mapping of areas that could be considered of archaeological potential, and explained how this information can be used in a planning context. Municipalities have requirements under the Planning Act and Provincial Planning Statement. Presentation
- Planning staff provided Council with an update on work drafting an Archaeological Management Plan (AMP). This project will help Grey County support the appropriate conservation of archaeological resources, as required by legislation. The creation of an AMP is recommended by the province as a useful tool for municipalities. The plan will be a useful tool and will also help strengthen relationships with the Indigenous communities, black descendant communities, and other groups with shared heritage. Councilors commented on the report and noted concerns about the potential of creating more barriers for development. The report was received for information and an update with a draft plan is expected to be presented later this year, after additional consultation. Report
- Council approved the redesignation of land on a property in West Grey to allow for more outdoor storage for an on-farm business. Report
- Council received the Going Green in Grey annual snapshot highlighting progress made on the climate change action plan towards sustainability goals. Snap Shot Report
- Council discussed a previously deferred report regarding the replacement of the roof on the Moreston Heritage Village School House. Council amended the report and opted to move forward with a Euroshield shingle instead of a cedar shingle. These made-in-Canada shingles will last longer and are estimated to be cheaper than cedar.
