January 8 Grey County Council and Committee Highlights
Grey County Council met on January 8, 2026, for their regularly scheduled Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. Due to a shorter than usual agenda, the meetings were held virtually on Zoom. A recording of the meeting can be found on the Grey County YouTube Channel.
County Council
- Council accepted the minutes of the November 27 joint meeting of Bruce and Grey county councils. Minutes

Committee of the Whole
- Council heard a resident delegation regarding safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists on Grey Road 17B at Nicol’s Gully. The road is scheduled for enhancements in 2027. Staff noted a report will be coming to Committee of the Whole in February and they will also explore adding some additional safety signage to the area as suggested in the delegation.
- Council supported a motion by Councillor Milne to disband the Budget and Finance Committee. Council discussed the role of the committee and noted duplication of work for committee members and staff in presenting budget details at the sub committee and again to all of Council. Acknowledging that all councillors want to be involved in budget decisions, council voted to disband the committee and discuss budget matters at committee of the whole meetings.
- Council discussed and received correspondence from the Town of Smith Falls regarding the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). Council passed a motion to send a letter to the Minister of Finance urging the province to continue supporting and annually indexing OCIF as well as indexing other provincial funding. Correspondence
- Council received the minutes of the December 10 Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting. Staff shared a verbal summary of the meeting which included information about dead tree removal from county roadsides, the West Grey and Hanover boundary adjustment, results of the 2025 Experimental Acres program, deadstock removal, and sector trends and challenges. At this meeting, CAO Scherzer also recognized the committee chair Lorie Smith on her upcoming retirement from Grey Ag Services and thanked her for her years of service to the agricultural committee.
