Housing for All

What is Affordable Housing?

Affordable housing comes in many shapes and sizes and can be defined many ways. At Grey County, we use the 30 percent definition. If housing costs less than 30% of a household’s pre-tax income, it is affordable. This applies to both private home ownership and rental housing in all income brackets.

Why is it important?

As Grey County continues to grow, it’s important to have a diverse mix of housing options for individuals and families. A lack of affordable housing limits both population and economic growth.

Our affordable housing shortage and what we can do about it

Right now, more than 3,300 Grey County households are living in homes they can’t afford. Fortunately, there are things we can all do to create and advocate for more affordable housing.

Progress on affordable housing

Increasing access to affordable housing is no simple task, but we’re working with local municipalities to address our needs.
