Respiratory Outbreak Declared at Grey Gables December 23
On December 23, Public Health declared a respiratory outbreak on the Maple Lane home area at Grey Gables. There are currently three residents experiencing respiratory symptoms with test results pending. The affected residents are isolating and receiving care. In an effort to prevent further spread, roommates and high-risk contacts are being closely monitored.
We are working closely with our Public Health partners and monitoring the situation closely. As part of our outbreak response, the following measures are in effect:
- Home wide universal masking (surgical mask) has been implemented for all staff and visitors.
- All team members are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Surgical masks or N95 respirators are required when entering an isolation room.
- PPE signage is posted at the resident’s room.
- Residents in isolation are limited to 1 Designated Care Partner (DCP).
- Increased surveillance and enhanced infection prevention and control measures are in place, including audits and hand hygiene audits.
The safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, and staff is our focus. We encourage all visitors to remain current with recommended vaccinations, especially those that protect against respiratory illnesses such as influenza and COVID-19. As a reminder, please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-986-3010.
