Grey County welcomes CAO Randy Scherzer
There’s a familiar face in the Grey County Chief Administrative Officer’s office. Deputy CAO and long-time senior staff member Randy Scherzer officially assumed the role of CAO on May 5, 2025.
Scherzer joined Grey County as a planner in 2002. In June of 2010 he was named Director of Planning and led the planning team for over a decade. In 2021, Scherzer was appointed to the new role of Deputy CAO where he supported several County departments and major projects including the redevelopment of Rockwood Terrace in Durham. Scherzer holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo. He is a lifelong resident of Grey County and lives just outside of Owen Sound with his wife and three children.
Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs welcomed Scherzer to the CAO role at the opening of the May 8 meeting of Grey County Council. Warden Matrosovs praised Scherzer for his leadership and expertise. “Randy has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, a collaborative spirit, and a clear vision for the future. Council has every confidence in his ability to lead our talented staff team in delivering the high-quality services Grey County residents rely on every day,” said Matrosovs.
Scherzer was appointed by County Council earlier this year following an announcement that outgoing CAO Kim Wingrove would be stepping down. Her final day in the office was May 2. Niall Lobley will be joining Grey County in the Deputy CAO role beginning May 20.
“Taking on the role of Grey County CAO is an incredible honour. With the support of staff, I am confident in our ability to continue moving forward Council’s priorities and continuing to make a positive impact on Grey County communities,” said Scherzer.
The chief administrative officer is the head administrator of the county. The role is responsible for leading staff, setting goals and ensuring programs and services are delivered effectively and efficiently at the service levels set by Grey County Council.
