Grey County is hosting public information sessions this spring to engage with residents about upcoming construction projects and proposed road transfers between the county and local municipalities.

202 Construction Planned in the West Grey Area

  • Grey Road 9 - This project includes pulverizing and paving a 5.5 km section of Grey Road 9 between Grey Road 23 to 275 m east of Southgate Sideroad 3. The project also includes a 2.3 km asphalt overlay of Grey Road 9 from 275 m east of Southgate Sideroad 3 to Southgate Sideroad 7. This work is scheduled from the beginning of June to the end of July. Grey Road 9 will be open to traffic with intermittent alternating lane closures throughout the duration of construction.
  • Grey Road 14 - This project will include pulverizing and paving a 5.4 km section of Grey Road 14 from 800 m south of Southgate Road 14 to Southgate Road 08. This work is scheduled from the beginning of July to the end of August. The road reconstruction project will have intermittent lane closures with traffic control.

All work will be completed during regular daylight hours. Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Future Road Transfers Being Considered in the West Grey Area

  • Grey Road 4, urban (Durham) • Grey Road 10, urban (Neustadt)
  • Grey Road 28, urban (Hanover/West Grey) • Grey Road 3, urban (Ayton)
  • Grey Road 27, urban (Durham) • Grey Road 25, rural (Chatsworth/West Grey)
  • Grey Road 9, urban (Neustadt) • Concession 12, rural (West Grey)
  • Bentinck-Sullivan Townline, rural (Chatsworth/West Grey)*

*Rural road transfers will result in address changes for all properties located along the transferred roads. 

2025 Construction Planned in the Grey Highlands Area

  • Grey Road 12 - This project will include pulverizing and paving an 11.1 km section of Grey Road 12 between Grey Road 40 and Grey Road 112 / Sideroad 16. There will be daytime closures at various times throughout construction with detour routes in place. This work is scheduled from May to the end of September.
  • Grey Road 119 - This project will include the overlay of a 6.9 km section of Grey Road 119 from Grey Road 2 to Grey Road 13. The road will remain open throughout the project, with intermittent lane closures with traffic control. This work is scheduled from June to mid July.
  • Grey Road 30 - This project will include replacements of 10 culverts on Grey Road 30 from Grey Road 13 to Lower Valley Road. The road will remain open throughout the project, with intermittent lane closures with traffic control. This work is scheduled from the beginning of August to the end of September.

All work will be completed during regular daylight hours. Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Future Road Transfers Being Considered in the Grey Highlands Area

  • Grey Road 12 (Markdale)
  • Grey Road 4 (Flesherton)

2025 Construction Planned in the Southgate Area

  • Grey County will be reconstructing a 5.5 km section of Grey Road 9 between Grey Road 23 to 275 m east of Southgate Sideroad 3. The project also includes a 2.3 km asphalt overlay of Grey Road 9 from 275 m east of Southgate Sideroad 3 to Southgate Sideroad 7. The proposed work will take place from June to the end of August.
  • Grey County will be reconstructing a 5.4 km section of Grey Road 14 from 800 m south of Southgate Road 14 to Southgate Road 08. The proposed work will take place from July to the end of August.

The road will remain open during construction with intermittent lane closures and traffic control.  All work will be completed during regular daylight hours. Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Future Road Transfers Being Considered in the Southgate Area

  • Grey Road 9 (Main St Dundalk)
  • Grey Road 14
  • Southgate Sideroad 11

2025 Construction Planned in the Hanover Area

  • Grey County will be reconstructing Grey Road 28 from Grey Road 4 (10th Street) to 14th Street as well as replacing the traffic signals at the intersection of Grey Road 4 and Grey Road 28- The proposed work will take place between May and September.

The road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of construction. Local traffic will be permitted to enter the construction zone. All work will be completed during daylight hours. 

Future Road Transfers Being Considered in the Hanover Area

  • Grey Road 4 (10th St)
  • Grey Road 10 (2nd St / 7th Ave / 10th Ave)
  • Grey Road 28 (24th Ave)

2025 Construction Planned in the Owen Sound Area

  • Grey County will be completing an intersection upgrade at Grey Road 1 and 14th Street West - The proposed work will take place between July and August.

The road will remain open during construction with intermittent lane closures and traffic control. There is potential for short-term road closures. All work will be completed during daylight hours. Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained. 

Future Road Transfers being considered in the Owen Sound Area

  • Grey Road 5 (2nd Ave SW, 2nd Ave E, 6th St E, 8th St E & 28 Ave E)
  • Grey Road 15 (3rd Avenue E / East Bayshore Road)
  • Grey Road 1 (2nd Ave W & 3rd Ave W)

2025 Construction planned in the Meaford and Blue Mountains Area

  • Grey County will be reconstructing Grey Road 12 from Grey Road 40 to Grey Road 112 - The proposed work will begin in May and finalize in September.
  • Grey County will complete an asphalt overlay on Grey Road 119 from Grey Road 13 to Grey Road 2 - The proposed work will begin in June and finalize in July.

The roads will remain open during construction with intermittent lane closures and traffic control. The following project restrictions will be in place:

  • All work will be carried out during regular daylight hours
  • Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times

Future Road Transfers Being Considered in the Meaford and Blue Mountains Area

Grey County is investigating transferring the following urban roads to their respective municipalities.

  • Grey Road 13 (Bruce St/ Marsh St)
  • Grey Road 113 (Alfred Street)
  • Grey Road 5 (28th Avenue E / 8th St)
  • Grey Road 12 (Miller Street / Nelson St W)
  • Grey Road 7 (St Vincent Street)
