Dinosaurs arrive at Grey Roots Museum & Archives
Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas, an engaging exhibition that reveals a vivid picture of what living, breathing dinosaurs were really like, opens at Grey Roots Museum & Archives on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Opening day festivities include a special “Meet the Expert” session with renowned paleontologist Tim Jeffries from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a screening of Disney’s “Dinosaur” at 2 p.m. All activities are included with regular admission.
“We’re thrilled to welcome dinosaurs back to Grey Roots!” says Jill Paterson, Manager at Grey Roots Museum & Archives. “This exhibit is all about sparking curiosity and wonder, and we can’t wait to see the museum buzzing with school groups, tourists, and local families exploring together.”
Using a combination of fossil finds, computer simulations, and intriguing models, Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas updates what we know about dinosaurs and the scientists who study them. Visitors can explore new theories about dinosaurs: what they looked like, how they behaved, and how they moved. The exhibition also dives into the range of tools used by scientists to interpret many of the most puzzling and debated questions of why - or even whether - dinosaurs became extinct.
“This exhibition illustrates how scientists are using different ideas, discoveries, and technologies to revolutionize our understanding of dinosaurs,” says Mark A. Norell, curator of Dinosaur Discoveries and Curator Emeritus of the Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. “Our work reaches across many disciplines involving paleontologists, biomechanical engineers, paleobotanists, and others to showcase how we go about reconstructing the mysterious life of dinosaurs.”
Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas is organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (amnh.org), in collaboration with the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco; The Field Museum, Chicago; the Houston Museum of Natural Science; and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh.
The exhibition, presented in part through the generous support of Bruce Power, runs at Grey Roots from May 17 to September 20, 2025, and is included with regular admission and free for members. For details, visit greyroots.com/dinosaurs.

The American Museum of Natural History, founded in 1869 with a dual mission of scientific research and science education, is one of the world’s preeminent scientific, educational, and cultural institutions. The Museum encompasses more than 40 permanent exhibition halls, galleries for temporary exhibitions, the Rose Center for Earth and Space including the Hayden Planetarium, and the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. The Museum’s scientists draw on a world-class permanent collection of more than 30 million objects and specimens, some of which are billions of years old, and on one of the largest natural history libraries in the world. Through its Richard Gilder Graduate School, the Museum offers two of the only free-standing, degree-granting programs of their kind at any museum in the U.S.: the Ph.D. program in Comparative Biology and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Earth Science residency program.
