CSWBP Receives $5,000 from Bruce Power to Support Community Safety and Well-Being Work Across Grey Bruce
The Grey Bruce Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP) has received a $5,000 contribution from Bruce Power to support its ongoing efforts to strengthen safety, health, and well-being across communities in Grey Bruce. The funding builds on the momentum created through the Nuclear Innovation Institute’s Community Resiliency Strategy project, which helped strengthen the understanding and need for collaboration and shared priorities around well-being and safety.
The funding will help advance the CSWBP’s collaborative work in areas such as mental health, substance use, crime prevention, poverty and income, and housing and homelessness.
The Community Safety and Well-being plan brings together partners to address the root causes of community challenges. Rather than responding to crises after they occur, the plan focuses on prevention, early intervention, and system coordination, ensuring that services work together to support residents effectively.
The funding will help advance the identified priorities of the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. Funds will also support coordination across community partners, enhance communication and engagement activities, and strengthen collaborative efforts that promote prevention, address local risks and improve overall community well-being.
“We recognize that communities across the region are experiencing a host of complex social issues related to mental health, substance use, poverty and homelessness,” said John Peevers, Senior Advisor, Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power. “We believe the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and its focus on prevention and co-ordination will help build resiliency and work toward what we all want – happy, healthy and safe communities.”
Recent initiatives supported by the CSWBP include:
- Hosting community forums on homelessness, coordinated access, and human trafficking awareness
- Developing regional strategies for substance use/addictions and mental health supports
- Strengthening local partnerships to improve collaboration and access
“We’re grateful for the continued support from the community and partners like Bruce Power,” said Jane Hartley Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Steering Committee member and Executive Direction of Victim Services Bruce Grey. “Together, we can make measurable, lasting change.”
What is the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP) Grey-Bruce?
Community Safety and Well Being Planning helps organizations improve the things that keep us healthy, happy, and safe. Together, we use research to create solutions focused on education, health care, food, housing, income, crime, and belonging. It is important that we create a welcoming community where problems are solved before they happen and where different professionals and community members come together to help people now and in the future.
The ongoing work of CSWBP is supported by an advisory committee representing over 78 partners from across Bruce and Grey who are working together to address crime prevention by investing in social development, prevention, and risk interventions. This upstream preventative model focuses on creating protective factors that make individuals less vulnerable to crime and victimization.
