There is a new provincial housing allowance program, Rental Opportunity for Ontario Families (ROOF), which begins in January 2008. More than 27,000 low-income households will be assisted in Ontario.
The program will provide a housing allowance of up to $100 per month to low-income working families struggling with housing affordability in the province. Generally, these are families with at least one child under the age of 18, who are currently renting and are earning from $5,000 to $20,000 (net income) per year.
