The responsibility of Provincial Offences matters was transferred by the Province to local municipalities during downloading in the late 1990’s. Grey County assumed this responsibility in 2001 for the Owen Sound and Walkerton Court service areas which covers all of Grey and Bruce Counties.
Provincial Offences courts deal with numerous matters under 120 different Acts, with the most common violations falling under the Highway Traffic Act, the Liquor Control Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The administration for all Provincial Offences Act matters are conducted from the Owen Sound office located in the former Museum building, off of the rear parking area of the County Administration Building.
