Province awards Grey County $1 Million in Funding
On November 28, 2008 the Province announced that Grey County was one of 15 municipalities selected to receive broadband funding from the Province’s Rural Connections Program. Rural Connections ... The Ontario Municipal Rural Broadband Partnership is a $30 million, four-year initiative designed to reduce broadband infrastructure gaps in underserved rural regions in southern Ontario.
The availability of the $1 million as a one third contribution from the province lets us build $3 million in broadband infrastructure. When completed all areas of the County will have a 75% chance of access to affordable broadband Internet. Through a competitive process, Everus Communications Inc. was chosen to build a high speed wireless network to service our businesses and residents.
March 2010 update - Grey County’s Rural Connections Partner Changes Ownership
Barrett Xplore Inc. Purchases Assets of Everus Communications
As of March 1, 2010 Barrett Xplore Inc. has purchased the assets and taken over the operations of Everus Communications.
Everus Communications successfully completed the first Rural Connections broadband project for Grey County in early 2008. After another competitive RFP process Everus was again chosen to build out the second Rural Connections broadband project in late 2008. The second project was held up due to Everus Communications’ financial situation.
Over the next 90 days, Barrett Xplore Inc. will be working diligently to ensure a seamless integration of all operational functions, minimizing impact to its new customers, with the goal of enhancing their broadband experience. During the transition, it will be business as usual for Everus customers while BXI continues to operate the Everus brand. Customer contact information, service packages, pricing, and billing practices will remain unchanged. Barrett Xplore will keep Everus customers apprised of any updates.
